Hi, Our kennel name is Ningsia pronounced Ningshy. The name comes from a small town in China. I have no idea what it means, I just liked it. So some 25 years ago I decided to call my kennel Ningsia Shih Tzu. I am a member of the Puget Sound Shih Tzu Club in Washington State and at present I am on the Board of Directors and Show Chairman for the 2003 Specialty in August. I also belong to the American Shih Tzu Club. I was on the Board of Directors for two terms, and I am still on several committees, such as Gene Mapping. Our kennel is located on five acres, four of which is wooded. The kennel was built by my husband and has five runs, room for puppies, laundry facilities and room for some other hobbies. My main focus is on producing the healthiest dogs that I can. We have tested our dogs for the link marker for Renal Dysplasia (RD), so if you see a note on some of the dogs that says no markers you will know what that means. We still have some 1 marker dogs and will have some for some time. It is important that those people looking for pets know that they should not over focus to much on the RD markers. You want a breeder that tests for genetic problems, it could be hips, eyes or RD but at least they are testing. Look for articles in the American Shih Tzu Club web site or here on this web site regarding RD. |
